TIPS FOR THE DIVORCED DAD…
I came across a wonderful book written by Elaine Walsh - A mothers attitude-free perspective to assist fathers in developing strong bonds with their children many years ago and thought it was helpful. I found the book again and reread it. I still believe that the book has great insight for dads all over the world to build strong relationships with their children despite a divorce. It's a quick read filled with quotes that get to the point and are effective. I see the book as a helpful tool to mend father- child relationships when necessary. I will continue to blog about other books that help women and children but thought this one was particularly helpful for dads and moms alike to become unified for the sake of their children. Lets face it, they are our future and with the divorce rate skyrocketing they deserve a healthy relationship with BOTH parents in the wake of a divorce. I particularly liked tip #23 : TEACH YOUR CHILD ABOUT GIVING: Help your child make or buy gifts and cards for their mother, your parents and if you've remarried your new wife, on appropriate gift-giving holidays. Teach them about giving. It is a part of your job as a parent to teach your children how and when to give. "We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give." Winston Churchill.
